Testimonials

My LaFree Sport has gotten me back into cycling after years of sloth. The power and range are more than adequate for many hills, and the build quality is excellent. The range allows a 14-mile ride with several long tough hills, using 70% of battery capacity. I give the Sport a high recommendation. The service and response from the dealer are top-rate. — Terry Roth –  LaFree Sport (predecessor to the LaFree Lite)

I make a 7.5 mile ride to my Fire Station and back twice a week year-round in all weather. I often have 20 or 30 pounds of food, water, laptop, etc. with me. In the winter my ride is in the dark both ways. I've put 1,100 miles on my LaFree Sport in 11 months… miles that would have otherwise been put on a car. Just last week, I gave it a good bath/scrub and oiled the chain: it's just like new! I love it! Anne, my wife, owns one too. — Dan Erlandson - LaFree Sport (predecessor to the LaFree Lite)

I have had my LaFree Lite for several months and have ridden it more than 600 miles, and would not/could not do without it! I have commuted by bike almost daily for more than 35 years and have used both touring and mountain bikes. This is by far the best of the bikes I've owned. Because of bad legs and knees I found myself unable to do my 12 mile commute every day. So I bought a commuter car and rode my regular bike about half time. What a disappointment. Then I saw the electric bikes. My initial reaction was that this wasn't for me. But after several trial rides and numerous questions, I was sold. I bought one and have been delighted ever since. Now I ride almost every day to work again. The Lite is fun to ride (with or without the assist). I routinely do my commute on less than 2 lights (out of 5 on the state of charge led gauge). I still get a good workout but really appreciate the assist up the hills on the way home. I have done 30 and do not doubt that I could do a 50 mile ride using the assist only when needed. (Or I can bring the charger and "rest" at Starbucks.) The Lite has very low rolling resistance and I rarely use the battery power on flat ground or on slight upgrades. — Roger Clark - LaFree Lite

I find it amazing that, as a woman beyond college age, I can easily keep up commuting daily, likely year-round the 15 miles to my job. Commuting is now simply a lot of fun. My bike is so light that it feels like riding any quality pedal-only bike. I arrive to work and home invigorated, relaxed, after never getting stuck in traffic. Some people ask me if my Lite is a toy. I can't recall a toy ever making me this elated. — Alison Starling - LaFree Lite

My bike is handling the 15 miles one way commute home from work like a snap. Because I am climbing from 0 elevation to about 600 ft most of my ride home is uphill. The battery pack makes it the whole way! I turn the power off on the flats, as the bike pedals so easily also in power-off mode and use eco mode on slight grades, and I'm finding it provides ample power for the complete trip. — Bruce Sheldon - LaFree Lite

Since purchasing my LaFree Lite several months ago, I have ridden over 400 miles and would recommend it to anyone who wants the power of an electric, and the flexibility of a fine standard bike. The diamond frame and light weight allows me to use a spare tire bike rack which means I can take it anywhere with ease.  — RAF - LaFree Lite

Riding my Merida has brought back the bicycle riding experience of my youth. As I am not overly interested in the mechanics of a bicycle, I particularly appreciate the intuitiveness of the pedal-activated system, and the ease of shifting. The Merida allows me to keep up on light recreational rides with my spouse (a former bike racer). The bike is also perfect for running errands. It manages both groceries and hills with enjoyable ease. — J.S. - Merida PowerCycle

Thank you for the bike-ride of a lifetime earlier this week!  I have been telling all of my friends about the amazing possibility to commute to work by bike without exhausting myself.

It was phenomenal to bike up a steep San Francisco hill that I would normally not choose to even walk up!  I still had the opportunity to feel my legs working and to increase my heart rate; but because I could rely on the electric assistance, the joy of riding a bike emerged as a more powerful feeling than the energy drain of the challenging hills. — Gail Lillian – LaFree Lite

It has now been two weeks since we purchased our LaFree Lite bicycles. These have been two weeks of joy. We realize this should come as no surprise to you. After all, you did tell us these bicycles were well built and technologically advanced. You did tell us they were lightweight and that their batteries were impressive. You said they were easy to ride, and had smooth-shifting Shimano internal transmission. But you failed to adequately emphasize that these LaFree bicycles are absolutely great fun. You also failed to caution that riding them is addictive. Since becoming owners of these marvelous bicycles, we have completely ignored our household and work responsibilities and have focused primarily on when and where we can ride them next. By the way, with these bicycles we both are able to easily the hills with little effort. Since they are so light and easy to ride, the electric motor is only necessary for traversing steep hills. As a consequence we can ride all day without coming close to discharging the battery. A charge is always remaining for that final climb home. Thank you for selling us the LaFree Lite bicycles. Please, while cautioning others about their addictive qualities, emphasize to all prospective buyers the many wonderful rides ahead of them. — Gary and Faye Tomlinson - LaFree Lite

My electric bike is one of the greatest joys of my life! It is the most reliable, delightful, healthy and ecological form of local transportation available. The electric assist allows me to ride even when I'm feeling tired and grouchy. Invariably, I find myself cheered by the scenery and invigorated by the wind on my face and the exercise I would otherwise resist. The daunting hills had discouraged me from approaching my non-electric bike, but with my electric bike, no hill is too steep! As a writer and activist, the electric bike is the perfect antidote to the sedentary world of the computer, while allowing me to feel good about the environmental impact of my excursions. Rather than emitting five pounds of toxic chemicals every time I start my car as well as fueling war with fossil fuel, my electric bike requires only a small bit of electricity. I have practically replaced my car with my bike for local errands. Riding instead of driving has also given me a deeper appreciation as I ride the familiar roads. I recommend the LaFree Lite without reservation. — Louise M. Wisechild, Ph.D. - LaFree Lite

It is wonderful! This bike has opened doors for me that I'd never thought possible. I am able to ride long distances easily, decreased my dependence on fossil fuels, and I gave away our second car. — Jane Donald - Giant Twist (European version of LaFree Lite)

The first time I tried out an electric bicycle I was thrilled. With osteoarthritis, I have been unable to use a bicycle much. Now I have found a way to bike again without injury. I have a LaFree Lite that I use to commute to work. Hills are not a problem anymore. The bike is light enough that on the level I often turn the power off. At busy intersections, I turn the power on and zip across easily. I arrive at work refreshed by my morning ride but not at all sweaty. All told this is a very exciting innovation—I recommend it! — Kirsten Rohde - LaFree Lite

Did you ever see the movie "IQ"? My favorite part of the film is when Einstein takes a motorcycle ride with the mechanic. As they zip through the countryside, Einstein's white hair streaking behind him (should have been wearing a helmet, but it wouldn't have been as visually appealing), he calls out, 'Wah-hoooo!' That's how I feel when I'm riding my new Merida electric bike (even wearing a helmet)! In fact, I've let go with a loud 'Wah-hooo!' myself a few times. The bike has surpassed my expectations for comfort, ease, and joy in riding. Since buying the bike, I have ridden it 3-5 days every week, including some windy, rainy days and several times after dark. I've ridden with 2 loaded panniers and also with my Burley cart attached. In every case it has served me well. And lots of my friends and neighbors have admired it and expressed interest in it... Thank you for making this alternative to cars so readily available. I couldn't be happier. 'Wah-hoooo!' — Iris Graville - Merida PowerCycle
